Phil was born in Bremen, Germany, where he completed his B.Sc. in Digital Media at the College of Applied Science. He then moved to Brisbane, Australia, where he completed a Graduate Certificate in Fine Art in Screen Production after which he moved to Missouri where he completed his M.A. in Mass Communication at the University of Central Missouri. Upon graduation, he became an Instructor of Communication at Warner University and left at the rank of Assistant Professor to pursue his Ph.D. in Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Kansas.
